La Grande Loop Artificial Intelligence (AI) Usage Policy
What is Generative AI
Generative AI (GenAI) is an artificial intelligence tool capable of generating new content — including text, video, audio, code, and images — in response to user prompts.
Examples of GenAI tools currently used by La Grande Loop:
Claude - AI used for coding, ideation, design, and research assistance.
Grammarly - AI typing assistant for grammar, spelling and AP style checks.
Our AI Use
Areas where AI is used include information extraction using AI and OCR (optical character recognition), conversion of physical media to digital, and image quality enhancement.
La Grande Loop will not use AI as the sole primary creator or reviewer of content. Anything authored by a person is verified human and the work is backed by the author.
Articles and work produced by La Grande Loop will never contain AI images. The only exception would be if the images themselves are a key part of a story.
Events may contain AI generated images and AI generated written content due to original authorship of the event submissions. AI may also be used to convert physical flyers to digital while maintaining original design and improve readability.
These policies have been heavily influenced by the work of other news outlets, such as Newsberg, think tanks covering journalism, such as The Lenfest Institute, the organization Society of Professional Journalists, and Tom Rosenstiel’s The Next Journalism.
